The Friends of Lake Anita is a group of volunteers that help to improve and promote Lake Anita State Park. The members donate time, volunteer labor, and help raise funds for park improvements and activities.

Lake Anita State Park offers camping, fishing, boating, swimming, hiking, a wide variety of animals and birds to observe, and just plain relaxing. Bring your RV (hookups available), your tents, fishing tackle, picnic gear (shelters available) and enjoy all the opportunities for outdoor fun!


Friends Calendar of Events 2012



Memorial Day – Labor Day
Saturday night movies at the campground – Spend Saturday nights with the Friends in the beautiful outdoor theater setting at the Lake Anita Park campgrounds. Movies begin at dusk. Popcorn is available.


June 2, 2012 – Kids Fishing Day
Join the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) for a fishing event held entirely for the kids. Registration at 9:30, fishing starts at 10 am. Stay for a hot dog and chips meal sponsored by the Friends group. Every child will receive a prize for participating.


July 20-21, 2012 – Christmas in July at the Lake
Come visit the Lake Anita State Park campground, where campers will light up and decorate their campsites in the spirit of Christmas. Judging of the participants will be held on Saturday night with awards going to the top 3 participants. SANTA will be visiting the campground on Saturday afternoon and come and check out the festive environment and join us for our Christmas themed movie, starting at dusk.


September 29, 2012 – Dutch Oven Cookoff
Visit the Lake Anita Campground during this Fall event where the Friends of Lake Anita will team up again with the Friends of Wilson Island to hold their annual Dutch Oven Cookoff. Whether you want to participate as a cook or just want to sample the work of others, join us for a tasty learning experience. The public votes on the dishes prepared. Prizes are awarded.


October 20, 2012 – Haunted Halloween Trail -
Come experience “The Haunted Halloween Trail” located at the Lake Anita State Park on Saturday. A non-scary little goblins walk will be available from 5 to 6:30 with Trick or Treating. The scary trail will begin at 7:30 and end at 11 pm. Refreshments will also be available. Sponsored by the Friends of Lake Anita and The Anita ACE Club.
